Tonight's elections proved to be exciting, producing four new officers for the club. There were plenty of nominations, with President having 2 candidates, VP having 3, Treasurer having 2, and Secretary having 2.
After votes were tallied and a tie broken, the following came out victorious:
President - Jason Perez
Vice-President - Sarah Aguero
Treasurer - Patrick Lloyd
Secretary - Isaac Magallanez
Congratulations, officers! I firmly beleive that Mizuumi's 5th year will be filled with outstanding achievements and innovative activities.

New Constitution & Bylaws
I'm pleased to report that the draft Constitution & Bylaws have been ratified by the members at tonight's meeting. In a 16 to 2 vote, the Committee's draft Constitution was approved. The draft Bylaws were also approved in a 12 to 3 vote. (Some members left after the first vote, which explains the discrepance in the totals.)
We will have elections next week using the rules set forth in the newly approved documents. Nominations will be taken from the floor at that meeting, and if seconded by another member and accepted by the nominee, the nominee will appear on the ballot. Members may nominate themselves, but not second themselves if they nominate themselves. :) A member may accept nominations for up to two offices, but may only serve in one.

Review Copies
Here are review copies of the documents being created by the Constitution & Bylaws Committee.

I'd suggest that interested people print these and review them, then bring them to the next meeting Thursday Sept 11th, at 5:30 pm in the Providence Hall Blue Room. Discussion time will be scheduled during that meeting. If there's lots of discussion and input from the members that the committee wants to integrate, they will work on the documents for another week. If the membership doesn't have a lot to say, we'll put these documents to a vote. Come prepared to discuss!!!

Constitution & Bylaws Committee Update
Work on the Constitution & Bylaws is coming along nicely, and a draft version will be available this week for anyone who wants to read it. Sarah has chosen to resign from the Committee for personal reasons, and Isaac will be joining since he was the next highest vote-getter.
This week's meeting will feature a time for members to make comments on the draft documents. The vote to ratify the Constitution & Bylaws will be delayed until the September 18th meeting so that comments from the members and from me can be considered. I haven't made time to write my comments yet, so my apologies for that.
If things go well, we should be able to elect officers at the September 25th meeting.
Let us know your thoughts either by email or commenting here.
