Seventh Meeting
At this meeting we watched the mind numbing and intriguing conclusion of Evangelion. The movie inthralled us all and caused us to go into a 30min conversation afterwards about many different religious aspects that were brought up in the film. It was a very injoyable meeting and we hope the rest of the semester wil be the same way. We have not yet decided what to watch yet but we are seeing how many meetings we have left and will decide on what series to see based on that.
Over the weekend, several of us helped run the anime table at the Japanese convention at the library. All of us who went had a blast and enjoyed seeing many different views on Japanese life and culture. Once we get a hold of some of the pictures that were taken at this event, we will post them and let you see what we saw. We all must give Aleia a pat on the back for being a good sport this weekend, even though she was being hit on by a very stange and crazy man *Shudders*. So at the meeting this week lets all give her a big hand and let her know we are here for her. (Sorry Aleia couldnt help myself.)
This week I will not be present due to the fact that I have a doctors appointment and then I will be spending the rest of the afternoon with my only other friend which I have not seen in a month. We have decided to show Steamboy this week since most of you who were at the meeting had not seen it and that it would be a good idea to show it. Well have a nice Halloween and I will see you all next week as we show the a quick series to tidy us over for the rest of the year.

Sixth Meeting
Sixth Meeting
Oops....forgot to put up this post over Fall Break. Well at this meeting we decided to watch 4 episodes and then this week we would watch the last two important episodes and then the movie. This meeting is going to start at 4:30-4:45 even though the posters still say 5:30. An email will be sent to let you know about these changes. At this weeks meeting we will also try to decide what show we would like to see next as well as who is going to be coming with us to help out on Saturday at the Japanese festival. If you want to help us, let us know Friday so that we can tell you when to meet us and set up a ride if you do not have the ability to get there on your own.
all episode guides come from http://www.animeinfo.org/featured/eva/evaanime.html.
19 - A Man's Fight/Introjection
In anger and frustration over seeing the broken and battered body of the Fourth Child, Shinji threatens to blow up Tokyo-3 with the self-destruct sequence of his EVA. When that fails, he tenders his immediate resignation from NERV as an EVA pilot, disgusted by the actions of his father. Shinji's "retirement", however, may be short-lived as another Angel threatens to endanger not only NERV, but all of Tokyo-3 and its innocent civilians in the Geo-Front shelters! Now Shinji must make a choice between his pride and his conscience, but little does he know that his decision will take him down a path from which there is no return.
20 - Weaving a Story II: Oral Stage
EVA Unit-01 has once again shown its enigmatic yet incredible power. However, Shinji has completely disappeared, almost without a trace, and NERV must work against time to find a solution to this latest dilemma. Misato and Ritsuko are on edge with each other as the fate of the Third Child hangs in the balance. However, it's more than Shinji's body that is on the line - it is his very soul, as he is forced to look inward and discover his reasons for existence, piloting an EVA, and his lack of hope for the world.
21 - He was Aware That he was Still a Child
In a desperate attempt at finding out the truth, Kaji takes a dangerous gamble that may very well cost him in a way that he surprisingly expects. In the process, the real story of Gendo and Fuyutsuki's past comes out, as well as that of Yui, Gendo's now-deceased wife. At the end of a century, a subtle love triangle had formed, but the Second Impact, and the events that would be put into motion afterwards, would change them forever. Even part of the hidden past of the First Child, Rei Ayanami, is revealed as a result of Kaji's bid for the complete and utter truth, but Misato may never forgive him for his deadly game of playing all the sides.
22 - Don't be.
Ever since EVA Unit-01's instability has become more and more apparent, Asuka's usual self-confidence has been going down. Upstaged again and again by the reluctant Shinji and without anyone to turn to, Asuka's buried past begins to come back and haunt her as the memories she tried to suppress come to her in her dreams. However, the latest Angel does far more than nudge with a half-remembered dream. Instead, it comes with a mental nightmare that may cripple Unit-02 and its pilot, forcing NERV to make a critical decision and sacrifice one of their greatest weapons.
We shall watch episodes 23 and 24 on Friday as well as the movie which was ment to take the place of these two episodes since these episodes were confusing and leave much to be desired. We hope to see you there, and if you have any series that you own that are 26 episodes long or shorter and would possible like to have it shown during the second half of the semester let me know.

Upcoming Japan Matsuri
Club members and the entire Lake community are invited to attend the annual Japan Matsuri presented by the Japan-America Society of San Antonio. The matsuri (or festival) runs Oct 22nd from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm at the San Antonio Central Public Library. The library is located at 600 Soledad street downtown. Map (bus routes, etc are on the library website above).
From OLLU, take Commerce/Dolorosa downtown to Soledad, then take a left and drive until you see a giant Enchilada Red building on your right. The parking garage is attached. Be sure that you have you ticket validated inside the library for an hour free parking!
Originally, we had been requested to man the Haiku table, where patrons would have rubber stamps and papers to make their own haiku cards, but that may have changed. The last email that I got from my contact indicated that we may get to have a table actually devoted to telling people a little about Anime and Manga. More info has been requested. Please let us know if you are going to go so we can watch for you. I'm driving, but I already have a full truck and I couldn't get a larger university vehicle as they were all reserved already by CSLV.
It should be a lot fun!

Anime at the Movies
Some of you may remember hearing me talk about wanting to have a meeting at Alamo Drafthouse so that we could watch some Anime movie. After that fell through, I started looking for an alternative. Today I was in touch with Casey at Fiesta 16 theater out on De Zavala road. I asked if there was any way she could tell me if they had any anime coming up. She said they usually get a list of upcoming movies on Mondays and that I could call back and talk with her Monday for more info. I explained how I'd like to bring the club out to one of their showings, and she said she thought that would be great.
So here's the question: is anyone interested in doing this? The cost for movies at F16 is usually about $7.50 - kind of steep on a college student's budget. I saw Metropolis there (subtitled of course) and I have to say that it was worth the $7.50 to see something like that on the biiiiiggg screen. Would you let me know by posting comments or via email whether anyone's interested? We might even be able to make this coincide with the banquet, if that's still in the plan for this year...
Thanks for your feedback!

Fifth meeting
Fifth Meeting
We had our 5th meeting on September 30th. At this meeting we more or less just talked a little and went straight to watching the show due to it being the week of Lakapalooza and not many showed up. At this meeting we got through five episodes, one of them being a recap of what had happened so far in the series.
all episode guides come from http://www.animeinfo.org/featured/eva/evaanime.html.
14 - Weaving a Story
NERV's supervising organization SEELE takes the time to review the actions since the appearance of the first Angel since the Second Impact. Observing logs, personal entires, and other accounts, they attempt to piece together the story as it has happened so far, and evaluate it. Gendo assures the council of mysterious men that they are well on their way to mankind's destiny. But SEELE will make their own judgement, and whether or not they come to the conclusion that Gendo has is another story entirely.
15 - Lie and Silence
Yet another wedding of an old college friend has Misato, Ritsuko, and Kaji thinking about their own futures and their lives, while Shinji and Gendo become strangely communicative with each other. A visit to Shinji's mother's grave serves to form an unusual bond between father and son. Meanwhile, Misato finally reveals her real reason for her attraction to Kaji, as the plot begins to thicken with part of NERV's secrets discovered underground.
16 - Sickness Unto Death, and.../Splitting of the Breast
Shinji is finally beginning to think he has the hang of piloting an Evangelion. His synchronization rating and self-esteem rises even higher with every compliment that he gets. However, all of that is erased in an instant as Shinji's new found confidence gets him entombed inside the latest Angel threat! Unable to escape and running only on internal life support, Shinji must now face his past and present pain, as well as his imminent death, while the rest of NERV scrambles to save him from the clutches of the most powerful Angel yet.
17 - The 4th Child/Fourth Children
NERV and the Marduk Report have finally found the Fourth Child and designated pilot for EVA Unit-03, and it is someone no one would have really expected. Shock and surprise ripple through just about everyone at NERV as news of the identity of the Fourth Child is spread. Shinji, seemingly the only one unaware of the true identity of the Fourth Child, continues as normal, finding out, among other things, that Kaji has a strange but relaxing pasttime. With the 2nd branch of NERV desotryed mysteriously, however, the relaxation won't last long.
18 - The Judgement of Life/Ambivalence
NERV is finally receiving EVA Unit-03, and eagerly places its new pilot inside for a seemingly routine sync test. But yet again, fate rears its ugly head as Unit-03 is taken over by an Angel, destroying the research facilities and wreaking havoc on Asuka and Rei as they try in vain to stop the rampaging EVA. Now it's up to Shinji to stop the Angel/EVA before it invades NERV HQ - but he'll have to make a decision to fight against someone he doesn't even know, but still feels a strang ebond with as a pilot. Gendo, however, doesn't feel the same, and he will do anything in order to protect the interests of NERV and of SEELE.
We only have 6 more major episodes left before we bring in the movie and show that instead of the last two episodes. The reason for this is because in the series the episodes are harder to understand and follow then the movie is. Plus the movie does a better job at ending the series then the series itself does. So at this meeting we will need to decide how many episodes to watch. We could do 3 and 3 at the next two meeting and watch the movie as is, or we can watch 4 or 5 this meeting and squeeze in the last episode or two with the movie at the next meeting. The other thing that will need to be talked about is wheter or not we want to have a meeting the Wenseday of Fall break or not. The final thing we need to discuss is what series we want to show during the second half of the semester. We can squuze in another 26 episode series or two 13 episode series, so I will bring in all my stuff again and you can bring in the series you have and would like to see and the group of us that shows up can vote on what we want to see. Most likely there will be only about nine of us there so we will think of a way to vote, I have one idea but well worry about that in two to three weeks. Well the next meeting will be tommorow October 7 at 5:20 in the Library room 102.
